We are delighted to share that, thanks to the generosity of our community, we have raised an incredible £18,748 so far towards our Tricentennial Campaign.
This campaign has been launched to fund essential refurbishment and repair works to the Blue House — including much-needed improvements to the windows, external stonework, and roof. These works are vital to ensure the long-term preservation of this much-loved historic building and the continuation of its role as an almshouse.
The Blue House has been providing affordable accommodation for older men and women in Frome since 1482. For over five centuries, it has remained a place of care, dignity, and community. Today, it continues that mission — but unlike many organisations, the Blue House does not receive any direct public or government funding.
Instead, the ongoing care and maintenance of the building are funded almost entirely through the dedication of our volunteer trustees, our fundraising efforts, and the modest monthly contributions made by our residents.
To carry out the urgent works required, the trustees are aiming to raise £500,000 as an initial target. Beyond this, continued fundraising will be essential to help futureproof the Blue House for generations to come.
If you would like to support us in this important work, there are several ways to get involved. On Independent Market days, we warmly invite you to visit us, where we will be serving a selection of teas, coffees, soft drinks, and cakes — the perfect opportunity to pause, refuel, and recharge while enjoying the vibrant market atmosphere. All donations made on these days will go directly towards supporting our Tricentennial Campaign.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us to preserve and celebrate the Blue House — ensuring it remains a vital part of Frome’s community for many years to come.
