Statues Around the Blue House

News

The Blue House is full of stories — some even told in stone.

Around the building, you’ll find a series of charming statues that reflect the lives and histories connected to this special place. Among them is Almswoman Nancy Guy, alongside Schoolboy Billy Ball, each representing individuals and experiences from the Blue House’s long and varied past.

There are also two serving girls, inspired by the Keyford Home, founded in 1796. The Home served both as an almshouse for elderly men and as a school where girls were trained for domestic service, offering them valuable skills and opportunities for the future.

Together, these figures provide a glimpse into the lives shaped by the Blue House and its wider community — from care and shelter to education and employment.

As we continue our work to restore and protect the building through the Tricentennial Campaign, these stories remain an important part of what we are preserving: not just a historic structure, but the people and histories that give it meaning.
